No matter what you have come to think of the battle in Iraq, our veterans deserve far more than they have received.
They should be given full educational funding and there should be much more support to help them readjust when they return to civilian life here in the US. Addressing their emotional, mental and economic well being is the very least we can do to return the efforts of our all volunteer forces.
Have you heard of Green Collar Vets? They’re one of our favorite groups that we would like to see succeed in a big way.
Their motto is from green uniforms to green careers. They are finding returning veterans good jobs in green industries. These are good paying jobs and they are part of the solution.
My favorite saying these days is, “Only YOU can prevent the next oil WAR.” In our society few people know the tragedy and savagery of war better than our returning vets and they appreciate when we do our part here to make sure that next time there won’t be a war that must be fought for no reason than over oil because of what our generation failed to do today.
We need to change as a nation in terms of our energy sources, and we need to do this quickly.
Returning vets ought to be part of this cause that is larger than ourselves and all about green patriotism.
Georgia Richey of Green Collar Vets wrote , “We are having so much fun meeting the green-minded vets in our area, the green business owners, and connecting the two. We have connected with the wind energy industry in West Texas and with some energy efficiency opportunities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We hope to have another chapter on each coast in the north early next year. It’s exciting to grow a new business, as you well know.”
